Application Information

Applications can be downloaded starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016.

A non-refundable $25 application fee is required.

Applications must be completed and returned by 5 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016. The first 75 completed applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will be date and time stamped upon their return.

Testing Information

  • The physical agility test will be held at 8 a.m Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave. **A signed physician's consent form (provided in the application packet) must be turned in prior to participating in the physical agility test.
  • The written test will be conducted immediately following the physical agility test
  • Salary: $63,306 starting salary
  • Top end salary: $90,378 (after 8 years)
    • Salary advancement considerations will be given to State certified applicants with police experience
  • Overtime: Time and one-half after 8 hours/40 hours per week
    • Double-time on Sundays and holidays
  • Holidays: 14 paid holidays
  • Insurance: Life Insurance (equal to 100 percent of annual wages); medical & dental Insurance (several options available)
  • Pension: Geneva Police Pension Fund (includes disability coverage and retirement plan)
  • Uniform Allowance: Complete initial uniform issue (minus soft body armor); then $650 annually

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen
  2. Not less than 21 years of age at time of application, and under 35 years of age at time of appointment.
  3. Must have at least an Associates Degree from an accredited college or university, or have successfully completed the State of Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Training course.
  4. Must have a valid driver's license.
  5. Pass the State of Illinois POWER physical fitness test (below), written examination and oral interview.
  6. Pass a polygraph test, psychological examination, medical examination, drug screening and extensive background investigation after a conditional offer of employment has been extended.


Must live within a 25 mile radius of Geneva's corporate limits by the end of the first 18 months of employment with the Geneva Police Department.

POWER Test Information

  1. The actual performance requirement for each test is based upon norms for a national population sample.
  2. The applicant must pass every test.
  3. The required performance to pass each test is based upon gender and age (decade). While the absolute performance is different for the eight categories, the relative level of effort is identical for each age and gender group. All recruits are being required to meet the same percentile rank in terms of their respective age/group. The performance requirement is that level of physical performance that approximate the 40th percentile for each age and gender group.
