Certified Police Officer Lateral Entry

The City of Geneva Board of Fire Police Commissioners is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer to establish a Lateral Entry Eligibility ListThe salary is up to Step 3 - $86,855.

Selection Process

Candidates who submit a completed application and supporting documents and meet the minimum qualifications may be invited to participate in an on-site interview. A candidate’s placement on any lateral entry eligibility list shall be by alphabetical order of their last name. The Lateral Entry Eligibility List will be maintained in parallel to the Police Officer eligibility list. Applicants may be invited to participate in and successfully advance through the following steps:

  1. Oral interview with representatives from the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, Police Department and Human Resources
  2. Preliminary character and background investigation
  3. Polygraph examination
  4. Detailed character and background investigation
  5. Post-offer examinations, including but not limited to a psychological evaluation, medical examination, vision screening, and drug screening
  6. All appointments are subject to a probationary period

Minimum Qualifications

Please review the minimum qualifications to be considered for lateral entry. 

Lateral entry candidates who have been determined by the Commission to meet the aforementioned requirements will not be required to attend the orientation or take the written examination. For such candidates, the examination process may consist of a background investigation, oral interview, polygraph, psychological, physical agility examination (or valid POWER Card) and medical examination prior to appointment.
