The City of Geneva is required to implement and enforce a federally approved pretreatment program.
The objectives of the General Pretreatment Regulations are to:
- Prevent the introduction of pollutants into Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW), which will interfere with the operation of the POTW, including interference with its use or disposal of municipal sludge;
- Prevent the introduction of pollutants into POTWs that pass through the treatment works into receiving waters or which might otherwise be incompatible with the treatment works;
- Improve opportunities to reclaim and recycle municipal and industrial wastewater and sludge; and
- Reduce the health and environmental risk of pollution caused by the discharge of toxic pollutants to POTWs.
