The Geneva Public Works Department responded to an electric outage that started at 5:02 p.m. Aug. 21 after a contractor's truck crane inadvertently struck overhead power lines and damaged utility poles.
The outage impacted 593 customers in the Pepper Valley subdivision, Gary Lane and the 2300 block of Sourth Street on the City's west side.
The Public Works Electric Division had to de-energize the power lines resting on the contractor's truck, remove the cables, restring the lines, and framed temporary measures to restore service. Customers were brought back online in stages throughout the evening:
- 17 customers - 7:50 p.m.
- 571 customers - 8:30 p.m.
- 5 customers - 10:30 p.m.
As a reminder, residents should report outages after hours and on weekends to the Geneva Police Department non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the on-call Public Works personnel. The City does not monitor social media channels and the online request system 24 hours a day.
