Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022 and the overall project is expected to be completed in 2024.
Dec. 12 Update
Union Pacific said the contractor is planning to start causeway installation on the east side of the Fox River beginning Thursday, Dec. 14. To coordinate material deliveries, the Fox River Trail will be closed intermittently on the east side to allow trucks to access the construction site. Flaggers will be present to direct pedestrian and bike traffic accordingly. The east side causeway installation is anticipated to be finished by Friday, Dec. 22.
Crews also continue to build new train shelters on the southwest side of the tracks off of Third Street. The commuter parking lot remains closed to the public.
Overall construction will continue throughout the corridor in the coming months as long as the weather remains favorable.
