The Geneva Public Works Department responded to two power outages April 10 on the west side of Geneva.

The first incident began at 8:39 a.m. when an underground switch failed causing the Western Avenue feeder to bump twice. About 727 customers experienced a momentary disruption in an area bounded by Kaneville/Keslinger Road (north) Peck Road/Viking Drive/west, Fabyan Parkway (south), and Western Avenue (east). One customer experienced a longer-term loss of service, which Public Works fixed at 10:26 a.m. by bringing in power from an alternate energy source.

The second incident occurred at 9:20 a.m. when another failed underground switch caught fire. Geneva Public Works had to shut off service for 109 customers to keep the fire from creating a bigger problem on the electric circuit, which also serves the middle schools and City Water Treatment Plant. Impacted customers resided on or near Stonewood Glen Drive, Wood Avenue, Fargo Boulevard, Brighton Court, Coventry Court, Herrington Road, Sterling Avenue, Spruce Court, Conant Court, Patten Avenue, and Simon Court.

After the fire was extinguished, Public Works was able to energize customers from alternate power sources in stages, bringing service back online from 9:49 to 10 a.m.
