[ARCHIVED] Fisher Farms & Westhaven - Aug. 30

The original item was published from August 30, 2024 10:32 AM to November 1, 2024 12:00 AM

More than 630 Geneva west side customers lost power twice Aug. 30 due to a probable lightning strike during the early morning hours.

The first service disruption began at 4:13 a.m. and impacted customers in the Westhaven, Prairie View Estates, Fisher Farms subdivisions as well as portions of Geneva Commons.

Geneva Public Works was able to close the switch to restore power by 5:40 a.m.

However, the same electric switch ultimately failed (due to the morning lightning) and triggered a second outage at 5:58 p.m. for the same coverage area outlined previously.

Public Works crews isolated the malfunctioning switch and brought all 635 customers back online by 7:14 p.m.

As a reminder, Geneva residents should report after-hour or weekend power outages to the Geneva Police Department by calling 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the appropriate Public Works staff to respond to the incident. Our online request tracker system and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
