A semi-truck struck an overhead communications lines that damaged five utility poles Nov. 4 at Sixth and Franklin streets.
The incident occurred at 9:09 a.m. and did not immediately trigger a power outage. However, given there were live wires on the ground, the Geneva Public Works Department had to manually take 68 customers offline to safely start the repair work.
City crews were able to reroute 48 customers to other power sources and restore service by 9:39 a.m. Given the significant damage, the remaining 20 customers were brought back in stages throughout the day (the last being 6:35 p.m.) after crews replaced the utility poles and repaired the wires.
The repair process was expedited with mutual aid assistance from St. Charles and Batavia's municipal electric departments.
