The City of Geneva has been working on a water main infrastructure project along the Route 25 corridor (North Bennett Street) since October 2023. The primary project involves installing a new water main on the state highway from State (Route 38) to Jefferson streets. As a reminder, businesses along State Street and Route 25 remain open to local traffic. See the City's local business access map.
Jan. 3 Update
The City will make 11 additional water infrastructure connections Thursday, Jan. 4 as part of the Route 25 water main project.
The water will be turned off from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 4 at the following properties:
Jefferson Street Addresses
113, 128, and 129
Howard Street Addresses
208, 212, 216, 221, 222, 226, and 227
North Bennett Street Address
127
The City distributed notices Jan. 3 to the 11 property owners that their water will be temporarily shut off during this transition process, which will be followed by a boil order. Other properties located near the construction zone will not be affected by the boil order.
The connections to the new water main will be substantially completed Jan. 4. The remaining work involves replacing lead service water lines, backfilling trenches and pouring new concrete.
The earliest Route 25 will be reopened to traffic will be Tuesday, Jan. 16. However, the finish date is heavily dependent on cooperation from suppliers and Mother Nature. The City’s contractor is running into a materials shortage from concrete plants, which are on the verge of shutting down for the season. Forecasted snow next week also could cause additional delays to the project schedule.
