The Geneva Public Works Department responded to two separate power outages Sept. 8 and 9.
The first service disruption began at 10:28 a.m. Sept. 8 impacting 11 customers in the 400 block of Ford Street and the 300 block of North Fifth Street. The power failure stemmed from a blown fuse, but the cause remains under investigation.
Geneva Public Works refused the electric line to restore service by 11:45 a.m.
A second, unrelated power outage occurred at 4:11 a.m. Sept. 9 causing 66 customers to lose service along Stonewood Glen Drive, Brighton Court, Coventry Court, Fargo Boulevard, Wood Avenue, Herrington Road, and Shoop Circle. This disruption was triggered by a faulty underground cable.
Public Works crews isolated the faulted section of cable and transferred power to energized transformers. Customers were brought back online in stages ranging from 7:45 to 9:10 a.m.
As a reminder, Geneva residents should report after-hour or weekend power outages to the Geneva Police Department by calling 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the appropriate Public Works staff to respond to the incident. Our online request tracker system and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
