[ARCHIVED] Kane County Hosting Electronics, Book Recycling Event

Electronics Recycling Kane County

Kane County Recycles is hosting a recycling event for electronics and books on Saturday, May 12.

This event will take place between 8 a.m. and noon at the Kane County Branch Court office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles, which is just north of Route 38 and south of Route 64 across from the County Fairgrounds.

Wait time will be no more than 10 minutes at a maximum and more likely will be less than five minutes.

This event is for electronics and books only. It will not include document shredding or paint. The next shredding event will be Saturday, July 14.

Electronics collection will include computers, laptops, stereos, DVD players, printers, keyboards, mice, phones, electronic games, holiday light strings and more, all of which can be recycled at no charge. Books are also free to drop off. TVs (of any size, and any age) and computer monitors will also be collected, but they have a cost.

The cost for recycling television sets and computer monitors, measured diagonally is $25 for screens under 21 inches, and $35 for screens 21 inches and over. People can pay onsite with cash or credit card.

Electronics are collected and recycled by eWorks Electronics Services, a non-profit whose mission is to employ individuals with developmental disabilities to sort and disassemble the electronic equipment. Payment for TVs and monitors goes directly to them and helps fund that work.

Books of any age or condition, and both hardcover and paperback, are collected, sorted and redistributed by Pacesetter Books, a church-based non-profit that assesses books for re-usability and recycles those that cannot be redistributed.

Kane County also has two Electronics Recycling Drop-off locations that are open Monday through Friday every week, except for holidays. They will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

Kane County Recycles has posted a full schedule of collection events for 2018, which includes the July 14 Recycling Extravaganza event. Check out the poster and map for that event.
