[ARCHIVED] Geneva Police Hosting Law Enforcement Torch Run

Law Enforcement Torch Run

The community is invited to run, walk or bike for a good cause as the Geneva Police Department hosts the Kane County Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.

Officers from across the Fox Valley will be joining the public for the four-mile event, which will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 9. The race begins at the Geneva Police Department, 20 Police Plaza, and heads:

•    East on Route 38 (State Street);
•    South on Route 25 (Bennett Street/Crissey Avenue);
•    West crossing the Fox River bridge and onto the Fox River Trail exiting the Fabyan Forest Preserve;
•    North on Route 31 (South Batavia Avenue);
•    Returns to the trail past the Kane County Government Center onto River Lane; and
•    Concludes at the Police Department.

The Torch Run will necessitate the closure of the southbound lane of Route 25 from Route 38 to Fabyan Parkway for one hour. Northbound traffic will remain open, but motorists should drive carefully through the area.

The eastbound curb lane on Route 38 will be shut down from River Lane to Route 25 for 20 minutes. Traffic will remain open in both directions on Route 31, but motorists heading northbound will be directed to use the center turn lane during the race.

River Lane from Route 38 to South Street also will be closed during the Torch Run. All roads are expected to reopen by 11 a.m.

Event registration is free and begins at 8 a.m. at the Police Department. Following the run, food will be served by the Geneva Citizen’s Police Academy. T-shirts will be sold for $15, and a limited number of run shirts will be available for $30.
