The Geneva flag at City Hall has been lowered in memory of Mike Donahue, who served as the City's Community Development Director and played an integral role in the establishment of the Prairie Green Preserve.
A 1979 graduate of Geneva High School, the former Kane County Board member initiated efforts to reimagine the Settler's Hill landfill to become a nationally-recognized championship-level cross country course (currently under development). He also was a successful entrepreneur when he helped found Midwest Wind Energy LCC.
On the philanthropy side, Mr. Donahue served as of the annual Marklund Top Hat Gala. He also was the vice president of the Freedom Water Foundation, whose mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs and veterans by providing therapeutic boat experiences in Florida.
Mr. Donahue died Dec. 12. Services are pending.
The City expresses its condolences to the Donahue family on its loss.
