Kane County will be closing Western Avenue from Fabyan Parkway to south of Belter Court beginning Monday, Aug. 19 as part of the County’s ongoing intersection improvement project.
Motorists traveling on Fabyan Parkway will be prohibited from turning north on Western Avenue during the shutdown. Drivers heading south on Western Avenue also will be unable to turn onto Fabayn Parkway. The closure is anticipated to last five weeks, weather permitting.
Kane County’s official detour will direct motorists to head north on Randall Road, east on Kaneville Road, south on Gary Lane, and east on South Street to reach Western Avenue. The detour will be vice-versa for those departing Western Avenue looking to reach Fabyan Parkway.
All local streets located off Western Avenue will remain open.
Kane County’s Western Avenue and Fabyan Parkway intersection improvement project began in late May and is expected to be completed this fall. Ongoing work includes earth excavation, roadway reconstruction, hot mix asphalt pavement, storm sewer facilities, drainage structures, and landscape restoration. The County also will reconstruct the existing multi-use path along the south side of Fabyan Parkway from Western Avenue to Route 31.
Operations are running primarily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Construction began on the Batavia side of the intersection and is now transitioning north to Geneva.
