The Kautz Road reconstruction and widening project is a joint venture between the City of Geneva and St. Charles. Construction will occur from Swenson Avenue in St. Charles to just north of State Street (Route 38) in Geneva. The project will replace failing pavement, enhance freight mobility, mitigate drainage issues, complete trail connectivity, improve safety measures, and support economic development in the area.
Construction started in June 2024 and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of the year, with landscape restoration and other punch list items being finished in spring 2025.
Sept. 20 Update
The next phase of the Kautz Road reconstruction project is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 23 with a new traffic pattern that will be limited to one southbound lane.
The northbound traffic lane will be closed from Averill Road in Geneva and Toni Street in St. Charles. The official detour will direct motorists heading north on Kautz to head west on Averill Road, north on Kirk Road and east on Stern Avenue to then head south on Kautz Road. Drivers traveling east on Averill Road will only be able to turn south on Kautz Road.
This phase of construction is expected to be completed in late October. All construction activities are weather-dependent.
