[ARCHIVED] Geneva Street Program To Start With Third Street Patching Project

City Road Construction

Geneva Construction, a City contractor, will be working on the 2025 Street Program, which will include resurfacing 19 residential roadways in the community. Other program projects will include Third Street pavement patching, Hamilton Street parking lot reconstruction, James Street parking reconfiguration, pavement markings and drainage repairs. A map and project locations can be found online.

May 7 Update

Downtown Third Street will be closed to traffic starting Monday, May 12 for pavement patching projects occurring from the south of James to the south side of Campbell streets.

The road closure is expected to stay in place through Friday, May 23, weather permitting. The first half of the project will generate noise and dust as crews saw cut through the roadway. Once the new concrete is poured, the surface will need time to cure.

The entire intersection of Third and Campbell streets will be shut down to motorists in all directions. James Street will remain open, but drivers will not be permitted to turn south on Third Street.

Parking on both sides of the roadway along this one-block stretch will not be available during construction. Sidewalks will be open to downtown patrons.

Several parking spaces on the west side of Third Street near the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Niche Restaurant and the U.S. Post Office will be temporarily closed for pavement patching. Third Street traffic lanes in both directions will be open from State (Route 38) to James streets.

Outside of Third Street, the contractor will begin saw-cutting concrete the week of May 12 to replace sidewalks and curbs in various sections of Geneva. This project is expected to last about one month.

Finally, construction crews will start filling in roadway cracks on select City streets the week of May 12. Streets will remain open, but this moving operation may cause some temporary traffic delays during construction. This project phase is anticipated to be finished in four weeks.

The entire schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.
