[ARCHIVED] RiverPark Summer Concert Series Celebrates 10th Anniversary In Geneva

RiverPark Summer Concert Series 2018

The popular RiverPark Summer Concert Series will mark its 10th anniversary with an expanded entertainment lineup featuring four free performances along the Fox River.

The concerts will be held at 6 p.m. Sundays, July 8, July 15, July 22 and July 29 at RiverPark, located at North River Lane and Peyton Street just north of State Street. The programs, which will take place at the park’s stone amphitheater, are sponsored by the City of Geneva’s Cultural Arts Commission.

Lee Murdock, noted as a fluent instrumentalist on six and 12-string guitars, opens the series July 8. His musical influences span 15 generations from 17th century Irish harp music to Scott Joplin guitar rags. He also embraces the blues, freshwater shanties, original songs and ballads.

On July 15, the Illinois Brass Band’s 30 members will astonish audiences with the power, virtuosity, repertoire and beauty of a British-style brass ensemble. Selections will include patriotic, show tunes, Broadway, marches and pop hits.

The Steel Crazy Steelband will showcase a distinctively different vibe July 22. Dave Seagren and his 10-piece steel band will bring the spirit of the Caribbean Islands to life with tropical musical styles including reggae, calypso, soca, Latin and pop.

A new fourth week will close out this year’s RiverPark Summer Concert Series July 29. Miscella’s Sweet Melodies, featuring professional vocalist Deborah Powell, will perform a variety of jazz, gospel and R & B songs.

All shows are free of charge, but donations to the Cultural Arts Commission are always welcome. People are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket or even a picnic dinner to enjoy a beautiful evening along the Fox River. In case of inclement weather, performances will be moved inside to the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St.
