The good news is that the storm did not appear to hit Geneva as hard as forecasted last night. We estimate receiving close to 2 inches of snow as of 6:30 a.m. this morning.
Winds are still strong this morning, which could lead to reduced visibility in some areas. The Winter Weather Advisory has been scaled back calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow and now will end at 7 a.m.
*******MARCH 11 UPDATE*******
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. tonight to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 12. The forecast is calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow, which would require residents to move their parked cars off the street in accordance with the City's snow parking ordinance.
Rain is expected to change to snow tonight with the snowfall possibly reaching up to 1 inch per hour. The heaviest snowfall is expected to take place from midnight to 6 a.m. Periods of heavy snow combined with winds of 20 to 30 mph - and gusts to 40 mph - will lead to considerable blowing and drifting snow.
Public Works crews will be monitoring the forecast and are ready to hit the streets when the snow starts falling.
Travel will likely become treacherous due to snow covered roads and significantly reduce visibility late tonight into Wednesday morning. Please be careful if you have to be out on the roads late this evening.
