[ARCHIVED] Kane County Conducting Recyling, Document Shredding Event

Electronics Recycling Kane County 2

Kane County is hosting a recycling event for electronics, books and paint from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13 at the Kane County Branch Court office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

County residents also will be able to shred documents for free at the event.

Electronics

Electronics collection will include free recycling of computers, laptops, stereos, DVD players, printers, keyboards, mice, phones, electronic games, holiday light strings and more, all of which can be recycled at no charge.

Televisions (of any size, and any age) and computer monitors will be collected for a fee. The cost of recycling television sets and computer monitors, measured diagonally, is $25 for screens under 21 inches and $35 for screens 21 inches and over. Participants can pay onsite with cash or credit card.

A complete list of accepted items can be found on the County's website.

Kane County also has two electronics recycling drop-off locations that are open weekdays with the exception of holidays.

Books

Books of any age or condition - both hardcover and paperback - are free to drop off. People also can bring pre-shredded documents to the book recycling area for recycling; contents should be in a paper bag, stapled or taped shut.

Paint

Liquid latex paint will be recycled at this event. Paint has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check.

Latex paint is non-toxic but difficult to dispose of normally because containers have to be dried out before being placed in the trash. However, liquid latex paint can be recycled into new products with no drying out necessary by bringing containers to this event.

The County will also take oil paint, but please note that it can be recycled for free at the Naperville Hazardous Waste Facility.

More details and costs for recycling latex and oil paint is posted on the County's website.

Documents

A maximum of four boxes of confidential documents may be shredded for free on site. The service is available for county residents, not local businesses. Additional guidelines can be found on the County's website.

Next Event

The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held Saturday, June 8 for electronics, books and document shredding.

Kane County does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances such as washers and refrigerators. For more information, contact Kane County's Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland at 630-208-3841 or via email.
