Nicor Gas notified the City that the company needs to conduct emergency repair work starting Friday, Aug. 9 for a pipeline south of Lewis Road and east of Peck Road on Geneva’s west side.
Nicor had recently completed an internal inspection of the natural gas pipeline and found an “anomaly” that requires an urgent response. Pressure in the pipeline has been reduced, and there is no present danger to the community.
Construction will be performed on Nicor-owned right-of-way east of Samantha Circle by Nicor and its contractor Northern Pipeline (NPL). The repair work is expected to be finished in one to two weeks, weather permitting, followed by restoration of the parkway and pavement. Temporary restoration of some areas may be necessary until a permanent solution can be completed.
Nicor customers will continue to receive natural gas service during the inspection and repair period since construction is not expected to cause any delivery interruptions.
The company plans to inform impacted residents and the Geneva Park District of the upcoming project.
Residents who have concerns or questions about the project should call David Surina, Nicor regional manager of community affairs, at 224-239-6486 or via email.
