The Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced Sept. 13 that it has closed the Fox River from boating and other recreational water activities in Kane County due to high water levels.
Due to the recent rainfall, the high Fox River water levels, swift current, floating debris, submerged structures and piers have created conditions significantly hazardous to navigate. The conditions also are treacherous for emergency service personnel called upon to rescue people involved in boating mishaps.
The Fox River will remain closed until further notice from the state. The Geneva Fire Department appreciates the public's cooperation for adhering to the recreation warning.
