The City of Geneva is seeking candidates for a vacant 2nd Ward alderman seat after Michael Clements resigned from his position at the conclusion of the July 13 special City Council meeting.
Clements first joined the City Council after being appointed 2nd Ward alderman in 2018 and subsequently winning a four-year term in the 2019 election.
Geneva residents living in the 2nd Ward that are interested in serving as an alderman should submit a letter of interest to the City Clerk, City of Geneva, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134; Attn: 2nd Ward Alderman Vacancy. The deadline is Thursday, Aug. 13.
Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for the position:
• Have resided within the City’s 2nd Ward for at least one year prior to appointment;
• Be a legal U.S. citizen;
• Be a registered voter;
• Have not been convicted in a U.S. court for any felony crime, bribery, or perjury; and
• Must not be in arrears in the payment of any tax or other indebtedness due to the City.
In addition, the Government Ethics Act requires a statement of economic interest to be filed by the City Clerk with the Kane County Clerk’s Office.
The successful candidate will be appointed by Mayor Kevin Burns with the advice and consent of the City Council to serve until the April 2021 consolidated election.
