[ARCHIVED] Geneva Police Warn Residents About Utility Phone Scam

The Geneva Police Department wants to make residents aware of a potential scam involving phone calls threatening to shut off people’s utility services.

We are aware of phone calls coming from an 800 area code number claiming a “representative from the City” will shut off a resident’s utilities unless their bill is paid immediately. Police warn residents not to give out personal information to these scam artists.

The City’s Finance Division, who handles billing issues, are not making these calls. If you ever have a question about your utility bill, call the Finance Division at 630-232-0854 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday or you can visit the office at 15 S. First St. during normal business hours.

Residents also can report suspicious phone calls to the Geneva Police Department at 630-232-4736.
