Water Customers To Receive Survey Postcard

Public Works News

In order to comply with the Illinois Pollution Control Board Regulations and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, all public water supplies are mandated to have an active cross-connection control program.

A requirement of the IEPA program is to conduct a survey of all water customers every three years. Geneva water customers will receive a survey postcard in the mail during the week of Aug. 7.

Customers can follow the directions on the postcard to complete a survey. There is no cost and it takes only a few minutes to finish. Surveys should be completed within 30 days of receipt of the postcard.

A cross-connection is a point in a plumbing system where contaminating materials can possibly enter the drinking supply water supply. Common examples of cross-connections that require backflow prevention include lawn irrigation systems, swimming pools, hot tubs, and fire sprinkler systems.

Geneva is utilizing the services of Aqua Backflow from Elgin to assist with program operations, including the survey. The company specializes in cross-connection control program management. For customers who have or require backflow protection, they may be also notified for compliance (testing, repairs, or installations) by Aqua Backflow. Questions can be directed to Aqua Backflow by calling 847-742-2296 or sending an email.

Geneva’s cross-connection control program is designed to safeguard public health. The City asks for the community's cooperation with our program, its enforcement, and any requests for information that comes from Aqua Backflow or City staff.

Residents with additional questions can contact the Geneva Public Works Department Water Division at 630-232-1551.
