[ARCHIVED] Geneva Street Program - June 26 Update

City Road Construction

Geneva Construction, a City contractor, will be working on the 2025 Street Program, which includes resurfacing 19 residential roadways in the community. Additional improvements involve pavement patching on Third Street, reconstruction of the Hamilton Street parking lot, reconfiguration of James Street parking, updated pavement markings, and drainage repairs. A project map and list of locations are available online.

June 26 Update

James Street Parking Reconfiguration

Parking spaces on James Street from First (Route 31) to Second streets will be reconfigured with excavation and sidewalk removal work beginning Thursday, June 26. The City has provided a construction map to outline the project area.

The roadway will remain open to traffic, but parking on both sides of the street will not be available during construction. The sidewalk on the north side of James Street by City Hall and the old library building will be closed.

The driveway running behind City Hall is expected to be closed June 26 and temporarily reopened Friday June 27 through the weekend. Crews will close it again Monday and Tuesday, June 30-July 1 to pour a new concrete surface that will need time to cure. Customers looking to pay their utility bill will not be able to access located behind City Hall. Utility bill customers can check out our FAQs on alternative dropbox locations and other methods to pay their bills. BASH restaurant customers also will not be able to depart the business using the driveway during the closures.

For those seeking permits at the Building Division or attending the June 26 Planning & Zoning Commission meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, the James Street entrance at City Hall will be open to the public. Visitors will need to use the sidewalk that wraps around the building (from Route 31) to access the staircase. See the construction map for more details.

Lewis Road

Concrete work is completed in the Lewis Road area, including adjacent cul-de-sacs. Pavement milling of the roadway has been finished from Peck to Kaneville roads, with remaining asphalt removal to continue the week of June 30. Paving operations for the new surface were set to begin June 26 and continue into next week.

As a reminder, residents and visitors should not be parking on streets when crews are present, which will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hamilton Street Parking Lot

Reconstruction of the parking lot on the southwest corner of Hamilton Street and North River Lane began this week with saw cutting and storm/conduit installation. This project is scheduled to be finished in late July or early August.

The City will attempt to limit the disruption, but there will be periods when half the parking lot will be inaccessible due to construction.

Other Projects

Concrete work on Northampton Drive was finished June 25 with driveway patching set to occur in late June or early July.

Concrete work also wrapped up on Fargo Boulevard from Western Avenue to Dunstan Road. Pavement markings on Fargo have been finished, including new sharrows bike markings indicating that bike riders and cars need to share the roadway.
