Nobody was injured during a house fire that appears to have started from the careless discard of smoking materials just before 9 a.m. Feb. 8 at 2743 Conant Court.
A resident called 911 after returning home to find smoke coming from the garage of the west side home. Geneva Police officers were first on the scene and reported a fire in the garage. Officers also confirmed that two other residents, who had been asleep inside at the time of the fire, had already evacuated the home on their own.
Upon arrival of the Geneva Fire Department moments later, firefighters determined the blaze had extended from the garage into the home. The fire, which was contained to the garage wall and a ceiling area of an unfinished portion of the basement, was extinguished within 20 minutes. Damage to the home and contents is estimated to be $40,000.
Firefighters from St. Charles, Batavia and Elburn provided assistance to Geneva during the incident.
