[ARCHIVED] Geneva Film Festival Adds Fourth Screening Site

Downtown Geneva will be buzzing with cinematic activity as part of the ninth annual Geneva Film Festival being held Thursday to Saturday, March 10 to 12.

The festival will showcase 36 feature-length and short documentaries, narrative films, animated shorts and student productions from 12 different countries. A fourth screen has been added to this year’s festivities to meet the growing demand of independent film enthusiasts. The Film Festival sites are:

• Playhouse 38, 524 W. State St.;
• Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St.;
• Geneva City Hall’s Council Chambers, 109 James St.; and
• 25N Coworking, 25 N. Third St.

One of the unique aspects of the festival is that patrons have opportunities to meet with the producers and directors of selected films during two special events.

• Behind The Scenes, 9 a.m. March 12 – Join featured filmmakers over a continental breakfast at 25N Coworking as they discuss the excitement and challenges faced when producing an independent movie. Audience members can ask questions in these interactive discussion groups.
• “It’s A Wrap” Party, 8 p.m. March 12 – Celebrate the conclusion of the Geneva Film Festival at Wildwood Restaurant, 477 S. Third St. Snacks and refreshments will be served, and a cash bar will be available.

Film Festival tickets are now on sale for $10 per grouping, and admission to the Behind The Scenes or Wrap Party is an additional $10 per event.

Started in 2007, the Geneva Film Festival has grown in popularity and status in the independent film community. The festival’s mission is to celebrate the art of filmmaking by setting the stage for independent producers and directors to showcase their talent. The event is organized by a group of dedicated volunteers and presented by the City of Geneva’s Cultural Arts Commission.
