The City of Geneva has been actively involved with the development of the Kane county Stormwater Management Ordinance dating back to 1998.
Geneva became a "certified community" in 2001 with the adoption of the final version of the City’s stormwater ordinance. The City enforces the ordinance provisions within its corporate limits.
Kane County’s website provides residents with helpful information for stormwater issues and links to the most current floodplain map and regulations.
The City’s stormwater permit also can be found online.
MS4 Stormwater Management Program Plan
The Stormwater Management Program Plan (SMPP) was developed by the City of Geneva based on a template provided by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission. The purpose of the plan is to meet the minimum standards required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Phase II program. Federal regulations through the EPA require all municipal storm sewer systems (MS4), partially or fully in urbanized areas based on the 2000 census, obtain stormwater permits for their discharge into receiving waters.
The Illinois EPA requires the following documentation in order to apply or renew the general permit for discharges from MS4:
- Develop a stormwater management program plan;
- Submit a completed Notice of Intent (NOI); and
- The City must submit annual reports to the IEPA:
