First Response

Promoting community safety is always our number one goal, and nobody does it better than the Geneva Police and Fire departments. While fighting crime and putting out fires is important, community education is another key component to making sure our residents have a "safety-first" mentality.

Recommended Trick-Or-Treating Hours, Halloween Safety Tips

Posted on October 8, 2025 at 2:47 PM by Kevin Stahr

Happy fall Geneva! We want to take this opportunity to provide some general guidance for those who will be participating in Halloween-related activities this month.

Halloween is Friday, Oct. 31. The recommended trick-or-treating hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m.

To make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween experience, the City would like to offer the following safety guidelines:

  • Please turn on your porch light if you are handing out candy
  • If you choose not to participate, please turn your porch lights off
  • Trick-or-treat with a group if possible.
  • Make sure children have a clear field of vision and wear light-colored costumes or incorporate; reflective tape can be a solution
  • Use caution when crossing streets and check all directions for cars
  • Do not enter into any homes
  • Check all treats once you arrive back at home. Only eat unopened candy that is in its original packaging
  • Respect others and their property

As a final reminder, Halloween is not a City of Geneva holiday. The City does not provide guidance on the cancellation of Halloween events due to weather. While Halloween weather can be very unpredictable, the decision to trick-or-treat is left to the discretion of individual families.

We hope that everyone has a great Halloween. If you have any questions, please call the Geneva Police Department at 630-232-4736.
