E-Bikes & E-Scooters

The City of Geneva follows Illinois state law regarding the use of e-scooters and e-bikes by the public. Given the growing popularity of these devices, the City is providing community education on what is and what is not allowed by the State.

The City is prioritizing education and encourages responsible use of these devices to help protect all roadway users. Please ride smart, stay alert and do your part to keep Geneva safe.

E-Scooters

An e-scooter is a device with two or three wheels, handlebars and a floorboard that can be stood upon while riding. The devices weigh less than 100 pounds, are powered by an electronic motor and/or human power, and have a maximum speed of 10 mph.

Important Info

Illinois state law prohibits e-scooters from being used on streets, public sidewalks and bikes/trails. The devices can be used on private property.

What Else To Know

  • Be equipped with a lamp at the front, a working brake, and a reflector at the back to operate at night
  • Only one person is allowed per scooter
